Microbe >> Research >> Bacteria

Unicellular prokaryotic microbe. It mainly contains cocci, bacilli, spirillum, such as Bacillus anthracis, Vibrio cholerae, Shigella, Bacillus thuringiensis, E.coli, Bacillus subtilis, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Bifidobacterium.

The technology roadmap of the bacterial genome sequencing in BGI shows as following:

Projects

In 10K microbial genome project, BGI plan to sequence ~10,000 bacterial genomes using the next-generation sequencing technology. For those species that are very economical or scientific importance, BGI will allocate matching fund and look for collaborators all over the world.

Those bacterial genomes data finished at BGI is being updated every day:

Scientific name:
Scientific name Genome size
Saccharopolyspora spinosa 8.6Mb
Acinetobacter baumannii 4.2Mb
Methylophilus methylotrophus 3Mb
Flavobacterium columnare 4Mb
Mycobacterium bovis BCG 4.4Mb
Flavobaterium johnsoniae 6Mb
Alicyclobacillus. Hesperidum 5Mb
Leptospira 4Mb
Xanthomonas oryzae pv.oryzicola 4.5M
Vibrio cholerae 4Mb
